SC Gjøa Youth Soccer is pleased to announce that our youngest Travel Soccer teams are now tuition-free (U7 boys, U8 Girls) and deeply discounted (U8 boys).
Please share with friends and family with birth year 2012 and 2013 Girls and Boys that may be interested in professionally coached youth soccer in Brooklyn!
Because our U7/U8 players participate in scrimmages against other clubs instead of league games. Like US Soccer, we believe this to be the best way to develop 6 and 7-year olds. As a non-profit, we can put values ahead of income and focus solely on the development of young soccer players.
US Soccer has implemented many player development initiatives in recent years, including rules that U7 and U8 teams play in 4v4 scrimmages instead of competitive league games. This allows our youngest players to grow in an environment where they get lots of touches on the ball, and where the emphasis is more on learning and less on winning. Some clubs (usually for-profit) continue to place 6 and 7 year-olds in competitive leagues, but we’ve been fully committed to this approach for our youngest players since 2014, and in observing the technical skills of our current U13 team we can see the positive results.
What’s the cost and commitment?
For soccer year 2019/20, our U7 (birth year 2013) program will be free for selected boys, and our U8 (2012) program will be free for selected girls and $950 for selected boys. The U7 team will train once a week in the fall, winter, and spring. The U8 team will train twice a week in the fall and spring, and once a week in winter. Both teams will play in numerous 4v4 scrimmages throughout the year with other NYC clubs that follow a similar philosophy. We will focus on fun and creating a love for the game while teaching fundamental technical skills to prepare them for playing in a competitive league at U9.
Who’s the Coach?
Overseeing the U7 and U8 programs will be our USSF A and UEFA B licensed Director of Youth Soccer, Lee Kellett (U8 boys head coach) along with UEFA B coaches, Andreas Antoniades (U7 boys head coach) and Anthony Brockbank (U8 girls head coach) Placing our most qualified and experienced coaches on this program shows how highly we regard the importance of teaching the fundamentals of the game at the youngest ages.
Players for the U7 and U8 Girls & Boys teams will be selected via tryouts held this spring. To reserve a space at a tryout please click here.
